Complexity, ambiguity and unpredictability are words that best capture the nature of contemporary social life and the challenges we face.

If we are to deal with those challenges and enable ourselves to live into a created future--as opposed to one that is given by our past--and if, ultimately, we are to evolve socially, we have to be able to do more than simply 'deal with' complexity and ambiguity. We need to learn to embrace it, to come to be at home with it.

Unfortunately, most institutions and managers relate to the world as though the old paradigm still predominates: as though complexity and ambiguity were problems to be 'solved.'
